Looking at this photograph brings back the memory of 6 years ago, us one afternoon having a drink in a Hotel that sits on top of the hill in a town called Viana do Castelo, an old Portuguese style hotel with a big veranda overlooking the town below, the river and sea beyond.  Every time we’re visiting the family in Portugal we’ll try and pay a visit, sit under the shade on that large sunny veranda and have a drink, enjoying the view.  When this photo was taken we were in Portugal organising the details for our wedding the first time around, boy we were looking so much younger than we do now!…the amount of stress lines, the sleepless baggy eyes and white hairs that are now appearing from the last few years put me in a position where I’m looking at myself and almost don’t remember looking like that, you know?

We caught the ferry to Spain as planned and landed at Satander midday today.  About an hour into our car journey across Northern  Spain heading to my parents home in Northern Portugal, we started to receive one of many manic phone calls regarding work.  As the afternoon progressed it was becoming clear that the other event Bikerboy had tried so hard to avoid happening last week was happening regardless, we thought we had succeeded, we were wrong.  The job Bikerboy had managed with all his might to finish by the weekend in order for us to drive down to our wedding, well, it transpired someone  else on this project has ruined part of his work.  So picture….me driving through Spain’s motorways this afternoon while Bikerboy is in passenger seat booking flights through the internet, to fly back to the UK to fault find, and make job good again.  He’s flying in the early hours of Tuesday and has two seats booked back, one Thursday night in case he finishes job early and one on Friday morning in case he doesn’t…24hrs later we are supposed to be married.

Tomorrow morning I face whatever the outcome of the registrar office in Portugal without him, he can’t speak the lingo but he’s still a tower of support and suggestions in the middle of a difficult situation.  Either my dad or my brother will be there but I can’t squeeze their hands as hard as I can squeeze Bikerboy’s.  I never use to be superstitious.
