I fell in love with these white flesh peaches seven years ago in Lake Guarda, Northern Italy on my first holiday with Bikerboy. In a picture perfect town called Limone with hilly cobble streets leading to the blue waters of the lake. They were sublime. White peaches have an amazing sweet fragrant flesh and these doughnut peaches seemed even sweeter and more fragrant. I couldn’t stop eating them. I obsess like that. Don’t ever offer me sweet cherries. I have no self control.
In the UK I came across doughnut peaches in the supermarkets about 3 years ago, and in that first year they were a pretty decent example of this fruit but last year I was coming across ones with no flavour. How do they do that? How do they grow flavour out of doughnut peaches? Anyhow be aware if you have bought a subdued or even bland batch of doughnut peaches, they’re not the real deal.

I came across these recently in a tiny, tucked away little privately owned fruit and veg shop! I thought he was joking! I asked if they were some peaches “gone wrong”.. he assured me they weren’t and were actually meant to look like this! I gingerly bought 4 .. and will certainly be going back for more. They were delicious!
Gorgeous aren’t they Twinkleberry. Apparently the species came across from China in the 19th century. If you google them you’ll find an article about them in the Guardian.
